Entameoba histolytic can cause intestinal as well as extraintestinal ameobasis.
[list][*]extraintestinal ameobiasis can mainly lead to lesions in liver , lung and brain.
Ameobic liver abcess is the most common form of extraintestinal ameobiasis.
Trophozites are carried via portal vein ,they multiply in the hepatic sinusiods leading to obstruction and thrombosis.Necrosis and formation of liver abcess begins and liquefaction takes place at the centre of abcess.
Trophozoites are seen at the periphery of the pus.They form ANCHOVYSAUCE PUS (mixture of blood and damaged liver cells).
There can be rupture of abcess or metastasis to lung,brain,skin and spleen.
