satellitism Empty satellitism

satellitism is the pattern of arrangement of heamophillus influenzae on blood agar strearked with staphylococcus aureus in the centre.

This is because heamophillus influenzae requires 2 factors for its culture i.e 1) X FACTOR- heme or hematin and 2) V FACTOR - NAD ( found in the staphylococcusstreak in the centre.

It is observed as thick colonies at the centre near the streak and decrease daimeter progressively towards the periphery ( due to decreased levels of NAD).
